Veterans Day 2018
A tribute to veterans was held at the Floyd Norgaard Cultural Center in Stanwood on Saturday, November 10, 2018—the day before the holiday’s centennial anniversary. The hour long observance began at 11 a.m. The Cultural Center is located at 27130 102nd Ave. NW, where a new Community Veterans Memorial had just been completed. The occasion included short talks by veterans and middle schoolers on the significance of the day and why we honor veterans. A homage to Old Glory was given and service songs for all branches of the armed services were performed. A missing man table ceremony remembering those veterans who were lost in distant parts of the world was presented. Veterans attending were encouraged to wear their hats, vests, etc.

Official Dedication of Stanwood’s Community Veterans Memorial
May 28, 2018 marked the dedication of Stanwood’s Community Veterans Memorial in conjunction with the national holiday. The Memorial is located on the campus of the Stanwood Area Historical Society at 27130 102nd Ave. NW, adjacent to the Floyd Norgaard Cultural Center. The event began at 1 p.m.
Keynote speaker Mike Ballard served six years in the military. He was a member of the 101st Airborne in Vietnam where his awards included a Silver Star and Bronze Star with Oak Leaf cluster. After the service, he joined the Seattle Police Department and worked as a patrol officer and teacher at the Police Academy for almost 30 years. The names of all the 49 fallen honored on the Veterans Memorial was read aloud following Mike’s comments. This dedication was the culmination of years of planning, fund raising and construction.

A Veterans Day celebration was held on November 11, 2017. This event featured a parade,
official flag raising ceremony, program in the Floyd and presentations.
